Spring had definitely been working hard to repair the damage from the fires that swept through this gem in the Smokey Mountains. Fortunately rain came when it did or this quaint little city might no longer exist.

Large expanses of forest were removed from the mountains and thousands of structures were either damaged or completely destroyed. This was truly devastating for the area, but the city is rapidly building back and nature is running it's course. Only 6 months have passed but life is finding it's way back into the streets of Gatlinburg and the mountains surrounding this beautiful little city. While the Chimney Tops trail where the fire started was still closed everything else was as busy as I can remember every seeing it.

We enjoyed a beautiful day, driving through the mountains and stopping at the many overlooks along the path from Gatlinburg, TN to Cherokee, NC.
